About Jochen Nuester

Research interests

  • biogeochemical processes in marine sediments
  • element quotas of phytoplankton
  • element recycling in the ocean
  • microbe-mineral interaction
  • the effects of organics on isotope fractionation in soils and rivers

standard methods used

  • geochemical analysis of sediment porewaters
  • high resolution profiling using voltammetric microelectrodes
  • measuring of low Fe2+ concentration in culture and seawater using flow injection analysis
  • measuring chemical composition of phytoplankton using ICP-MS (bulk) and synchrotron fluorescence analysis (SXRF, single cells)
  • ligand and Fe analysis using cathodic stripping voltammetry
  • measurements of isotope fractionation using MC-ICP-MS
